UFC lightweight Johnny Case had been on a 12 fight win streak, four of them in the UFC. At UFC Fight Night 85 in Brisbane, Australia, he faced Victoria, Australia’s Jake Matthews, who also sported an impressive record, at 10-1.

Case was the odds on favorite to win it, but the Aussie dug down deep in front of his countrymen, to get the win, The contest earned earn the Fight of the Night, with $50,000 performance bonus awards going to each fighter.

The pair were not the only fighters to received extra income.

UFC fighters received revenue in addition to their contract pay. There can be additional “locker room” bonuses. Main event fighters can receive a tiered cut of the PPV proceeds, for those shows on PPV. Four $50,000 performance bonuses are handed out each show. And fighters receive Athlete Outfitting income via the Reebok Deal.

The Reebok Deal pays fighter to exclusively wear Reebok apparel in the Octagon and during fight week. The income is based on ZUFFA-era tenure in the UFC, or top tier promotions ZUFFA has acquired like Strikeforce and WEC.
