For a generation Nova Uniao fighters let their fighting speak for itself, and presented themselves largely as the humble and world-beating martial artists that they are. However, in 2014, the great Andre Pederneiras, who founded the team, made a calculated decision to start s*** talking. He did so because it puts asses in seats and fighters in title bouts and money in pockets.

The fault is not his, it’s ours. S*** talk works.

“This meeting that I will have with them is to say that the market doesn’t want you to just trade punches with your opponent, but also that you talk a lot of s— about your rival to to get everybody’s attention,” he told Combate at the time. “We didn’t want this, but it sells good and financially will be nice for the fighters.”

So now it’s not UFC it’s FUC.

Thus it was that minutes after UFC featherweight Conor McGregor lost to Nate Diaz on Saturday night, former champ Jose Aldo took to twitter and lashed out with a vulgarity.

McGregor responded at the post fight press conference.

He had an opportunity to show up here and he didn’t, said McGregor, as transcribed by Tom Ngo for 5thround. He could be sitting here where Nate’s sitting right now. He was the first choice. He said, ‘Any time, anyplace, anywhere.’ And then it wasn’t any time, anyplace, anywhere.

Now another man gets a victory over me and he’s celebrating. That’s the sign of a loser. That’s the sign of a runner-up. That’s not the sign of a champion.

McGregor indicated his next fight would likely be back at featherweight, and said he still planned to fight at UFC 200 on July 9. The most likely opponents are Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo.

Let the s*** talking begin. And it’s our fault.
