The difference in skill level between a UFC fighter and your average Joe is immense. Nowhere is that more evident than in this YouTube video.

The video shows UFC’s own Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone sparring with someone who does train but is light years behind Cowboy. The sparring starts off very light with both guys smiling and throwing with no ill intentions.

Soon after it begins though Cowboy lands a beautiful punching combination and ends with a high kick which knocks his sparring partner old cold.

Cowboy then walks over and checks on him to make sure he’s alright, showing what a class act he is.

Sparring is an important aspect of nearly all martial arts. It is important to test techniques in a realistic scenario against a resisting opponent to see what really works. However, it is usually reserved for senior students. As we see in this video when there is a huge discrepancy in skill accidents can occur. Cowboy’s sparring partner in the video made the mistake of dropping his hands, even for just a split second, and it resulted in him getting knocked out cold.
