Cheyanne Buys was given a massive opportunity to compete in the co-main event at UFC Vegas 33, and she opened some eyes with her destructive finish.
Cheyanne Buys had a memorable first UFC victory
Buys, in only her second appearance, recorded the fourth-fastest finish in UFC strawweight history at one minute (1:00) into the first round.
The first-round technical knockout of Gloria de Paula came in a furious exchange that began with a knockdown, head kick, and a relentless barrage of southpaw ground strikes that gave Buys here sixth career win and first inside the Octagon.
“I kept telling everyone leading into this fight, I will not go 0-2,” she said after the fight.
UFC informed Buys not long after the bout she earned a US $50,000 performance bonus in addition to her $10,000 win bonus for the victory. Buys came out of her folding chair and went to all fours in an emotional reaction she said saves her from “financial ruin.”
