While a pair of fighters did receive potentially lengthy medical suspensions following this past weekend’s UFC 272 event, Renato Moicano wasn’t one of them.
Despite taking significant visible damage in a five-round battle with former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos (31-13 MMA, 20-11 UFC), Moicano (16-5-1 MMA, 8-5 UFC) was only ordered out for two months after Saturday’s card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
That’s according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s official orders, which The Underground today obtained.
Jalin Turner (12-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who scored an impressive second-round TKO over Jamie Mullarkey (14-5 MMA 3-2 UFC), and Kennedy Nzechukwu (9-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC), who suffered a split-decision loss to Nicolae Negumereanu (12-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC), each face potential six-month orders. Each can be cleared by an orthopedic doctor following X-rays of their injuries.
Additionally, UFC 272 headliner Jorge Masvidal (35-16 MMA, 12-9 UFC) was ordered to get an MRI done within the next two weeks and to have it compared to an October 2019 scan for clearance.
Athletes over the age of 35 are generally expected to face additional scrutiny for licensure in Nevada. Masvidal is 37.
Commission officials declined to offer any additional information when contacted by The Underground.
