Police officer uses Karate on detainee handcuffed to a chair.

A Spanish police officer has been filmed karate kicking a suspected drunk driver twice in the head as his colleagues stood around watching.

Shocking footage shows the 41-year-old martial artist letting his feet fly as his handcuffed victim sits helpless on a bench at a police station in Majorca.

And instead of helping him after he was subjected to the violent attack, a colleague is then seen walking up to the camera and moving it after realising the assault had been filmed on CCTV.

The striking images emerged after the unnamed officer, who is still understood to be working as a policeman with the same force, admitted the attack. He is facing four years in jail if convicted of torture and wounding. He claimed at a court in Palma that he ‘lost his nerves’ after the detainee threatened to slice up his daughter.

He also insisted he knew he was being filmed and apologised to his victim. He said: ‘It wasn’t the right behaviour. It wasn’t the sort of behaviour a policeman should display.’

The official accused of moving the camera said he knocked it by accident as he got his extendable baton out and claimed no further assaults had taken place while the camera was turned away.

The incident happened in September 2011. The assault victim had been arrested after failing a breath test following a road accident.

He denied insulting or threatening any police officers and said he had been hit several times at the police station. He is said to work now for the local force’s Immediate Action Rapid Deployment Unit – and not the Police Preventive Action Unit he was working for at the time of the assault. [source : dailymail.co.uk]
