Red kangaroos were already terrifying. While the females can be cute, and at times almost cuddly, the males can range anywhere from 120 to approximately 190 pounds, stand over 5 feet tall on their hind legs, cover a distance of nearly 30 feet in a single hop, jump 9 feet high, not to mention they can quite literally kick a hole in you whilst balancing on their tail, at the same time.
Red kangaroos were already terrifying, and now they are straight using jiu-jitsu on each other! We have all heard stories from the past of boxing kangaroos as a circus, or carnival sideshow. Well, it would appear that just as humans have progressed our fighting styles over the years, kangaroos have evolved from the one dimensional fighters of their past as well, picking up a bit of grappling along the way! In this video, you can see the kangaroos boxing, and using the tail balancing kick technique that we spoke about in the intro, right away.
All seems like fair play until the 00:16 mark of the video, where one of the kangaroos hits a beautiful outside trip on the other. They are obviously fighting under PRIDE rules, because as soon as the fight hits the floor, the kangaroo on top lands a devastating double stomp to the head of the grounded roo. From there, the grounded kangaroo tries to recover, but is obviously disoriented. The upright kangaroo continues the onslaught, delivering huge ground and pound shots. At the 00:33 mark, the downed kangaroo attempts to scramble, but the upright kangaroo jumps on his neck like a lion going for the kill.
It honestly reminded me of Renan Barao taking Brad Pickett’s back like a phantom in their fight back in November 2011. The downed kangaroo refuses to tap though, and goes limp, rendering the upright roo the victor by rear naked choke at 01:02 of the very first round!
