An amateur MMA bout between Coty Shannon and Brian Borden took place in Festus, Missouri (USA) at the Nemesis Fighting Alliance on 30 June of 2012. It was Coty Shannon’s debut and the outcome of his first fight could not be more spectacular.
It was a back and forth battle between the two amateur fighters. At the second round, Brian Borden got a takedown over Coty Shannon, who took advantage of the situation, locked up an omoplata and place his forearm around his opponent’s neck from the back, which looked like a rear naked choke attempt and blacked out Borden with something between a twist/choke submission.

Brian Borden did not tap in time and the referee apparently did not see that the submission was locked, so he was left unconscious for a good six seconds before the fight been stopped at 1:02 of the second round.
Many rare submissions have been seen in the world of mixed martial arts. Among them, we can find the Shinya Aoki’s twister over Yuki Yamamoto, Pat Curran’s Peruvian necktie submission win over Luis Palomino, a gogoplata applied on Takanori Gomi by Nick Diaz, back in Pride 33 and the calf slicer by Charles Oliveira on Eric Wisely. However, what is documented in the video below is certainly unprecedented:

In Jiu Jitsu, submission has numerous variations, but occurs primarily through locks and chokes. The first one puts pressure on the joint of the opponent, causing excruciating pain. The most common ones are the armbar, leg lock, kimura and americana. The chokes aims for the opponent’s neck in order to obstruct the passage of air to the lungs or blood to the brain. That is what happens in submissions like the guillotine choke, katagatame and rear naked choke. If it is held for an extended period of time, the person can lose consciousness or even die.
