An infamous amateur wrestler, who was jailed for knocking out a referee following a match, found himself back behind bars years later during another fit of rage.
>
Chad Hilderbrandt first hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons back in January of 1996, when he viciously assaulted referee Bob West during a high school wrestling tournament in Spokane, Washington.
>
The footage was caught on tape and shows the 190lb Hilderbrandt, wearing a maroon singlet and representing Colville High School, being taken down and pinned by his opponent.
>
As he got back to his feet, Hilderbrandt’s temper flared and he shoved his opponent, which led to West motioning to a coach on the sidelines that the wrestler would be deducted a point for his actions.
>

A furious Hilderbrandt then aimed a headbutt at West’s left temple, which knocked him out cold, with witnesses at the scene stating that he remained unconscious for 4-5 minutes afterwards.
Hilderbrant showed little remorse for his actions and was later sentenced to thirty days in jail after pleading guilty to fourth degree assault.
>
The shocking incident led to 23 states introducing sterner punishments for wrestlers who assault referees, though surprisingly, Washington wasn’t one of them.
>
This wasn’t to be Hilderbrandt’s only brush with the law however, as he became national news again in 2008 at the age of 30 when he was put back behind bars for stabbing his wife.
>
Hildebrandt, who was addicted to drugs and alcohol by that stage in his life, reportedly accused his wife of filming a pornographic movie and then attacked her with a hunting knife, aiming for her vagina, but instead stabbing her in the upper thigh.

Again Hilderbrandt showed a lack of remorse afterwards, and even tried to intimidate a witness while in jail, though the phone call was recorded and used as evidence against him.
>
Hilderbrandt would later plead guilty to 2nd degree assault with a deadly weapon and intimidating a witness, and was sentenced to 27 months in prison.
