Finalizing. This single word more or less encompasses the totality of the meaning of the term ‘knockout’. The knockout is one of the most intriguing ways for a competitor to win a match in mixed martial arts. Simply put, to knockout your opponent is to render them in a state of consciousness, or lack thereof, not capable of making a decision as to whether or not to engage in a fistfight. The knockout is a display which is often times referred to as a ballet of violence.

The knockout encompasses a variety of impressive movements that display speed, timing, agility, power, grace, and balance to allow one fighter to physically connect with their opponent in a manner that oftentimes results in a devastating and brutal end to the competition. However; not all knockouts are as elegant as the previous description was eloquent.

The physiology of the human body is so intrinsic, delicate, complicated, and sophisticated that scientists have barely scratched the surface as to how the precise mechanisms that make the body function as a whole actually work. The long and short of it is that we know very little about the complete biological processes that determine how things function on a cellular level. This means that we are not completely sure exactly what happens when one is knocked out or rendered unconscious.

This is indicative by the way in which the human body reacts to suddenly and violently losing consciousness which can be terrifying, entertaining, and hilarious all at the same time. In the video below you will witness some of the weirdest knockouts ever to have occurred in the sport of mixed martial arts.
