Steven Seagal is the somewhat boyishly handsome action film star, “1 million percent Russian” goji berry energy drink magnate, friend to Bruce Lee, brother to Russian president Vladimir Putin, from whom received the prestigious Order of Friendship, father to Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida, reincarnated lama, musician, environmentalist, animal rights activist, producer, writer, guitarist, humanitarian, philanthropist, statesman, reserve deputy sheriff, 7th-dan black belt in aikido, and featured talent in the award-winning documentary Sheep Impact. O’Sensei Seagal was recently the guest of honor at the Typhoon All-Russian Aikido Center grand opening in Moscow, and cut the ribbon by himself.

“I am very glad to be able to present this center today and that aikido will develop here. These arts can make this world a better place,” said Seagal, as transcribed and translated by Igor Lazorin for TASS. “The young athletes that I saw today have a very great potential. We need to open more such centers in order to develop it. It is important that the development of aikido proceed at a faster pace.”

TASS reports that the center has several main objectives, including:
• Increase the applied nature of aikido;
• Develop various styles and directions of traditional and modern aikido;
• Increase the general motivation of those involved, via the opportunity to become a champion, receive a sports category title; and,
• Prepare young people for service in the Russian Armed Forces.

Russia invaded Ukraine and the two nations are at war. However, the idea of Steven Seagal opening a martial arts center to prepare youth for the Russian armed forces was too good for the Ukrainian defense ministry to pass up without a little trolling on the social network.

“It’s been reported that Russia has recruited Steven Seagal to teach martial arts to its soldiers,” began the tweet. “Rumor has it that the Seagal-style running technique will be included in the training. Russian soldiers will now be able to run away from their positions with weird hand motions.”

O’Sensei’s running technique referenced above has been exhaustively studied;

There are even online resources available for potential special operatives to learn to run like Seagal, if it is not possible to attend the Typhoon All-Russian Aikido Center:
