Although we are used to seeing our favorite mixed martial arts athletes compete in the cage, we often wonder what would happen if they got into an altercation in the street, and for one unlucky and dimwitted individual that was just the case.
In the northern English city of York, CCTV captured 25 year old Dean Edwards carrying a 12 inch butchers blade who was resisting arrest from Police Constable Richard Farrar after Edwards was acting “verbally aggressive and confrontational” which prompted Constable Farrar to conduct a search.

When things go pear shaped Constable Farrar had to give chase to Edwards who tried to flee the scene (and dropping his weapon). After proving to be quite a handful for Constable Farrar to restrain and arrest safely by himself, he was suddenly aided by man passing by in a taxi who quickly helped diffuse the situation.
The person in question was local mixed martial arts judge Andy Haigh who also holds experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. Immediately when he entered the scuffle Haigh applied a textbook rear naked choke on Edwards which allowed Constable Farrar to get the cuffs on with ease.

“I couldn’t see him struggle on his own. He was a lone police officer trying to make an arrest and I just helped him out. Someone was going to get hurt.” Haigh said of the incident to the Daily Mail UK.
The amazing footage was shared on the Kingston Police Facebook page.
“Thankful to this member of public for helping our colleague out in Yorkshire recently. The Officer went to stop a suspect who had a large knife on him, struggled and was helped by a passing cage fighter! This video goes to highlight the dangers our officers face on a daily basis while keeping you safe.”
Edwards was subsequently sentenced to thirty months behind bars.
