What better way to learn the famous rear-naked choke technique than with a UFC veteran and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace like Alan Belcher…with a little help from his six-month old daughter!

Ava’s going to help us out today, she’s pretty tough, Belcher noted to the camera, while sitting in a busy restaurant with his daughter happily sitting on his lap.

Kid’s grow up fast these days, so apparently Belcher thought that it was about time the cheeky chopped young Ava started earning her keep by serving as his partner while he demonstrated the key aspects of this tried and tested submission move.

Belcher knows better than most how to apply it – after all, he’s a BJJ black belt who has successfully implemented the choke in the Octagon, including finishing Patrick Cote with it in a ‘Submission Of The Night’ performance at UFC 113 in 2010.

Back to the video though, and Belcher and his daughter were beginning to attract some attention from some passers-by.

Look at that chubby little face, one of the restaurant staff cooed as she walked past.

Yep, she’s cute, but she’s about to get choked, Belcher deadpanned.

Apparently Ava has inherited her dad’s natural inclination martial arts as she barely batted an eyelid as he explained the intricacies of the maneuver.

She’s got a pink belt in Jiu-Jitsu, Belcher quipped, while gently showing how to take an opponent’s back, secure them in place, sink in the choke under the neck and then lock up the hold to produce a tap-out.

Over the years the rear-naked choke has proven to be the most used method of finishing a fight by submission in all of MMA, starting from back in the early 90s when Royce Gracie famously used the move to win the open-weight tournament at UFC 1.

Despite its fearsome reputation, the submission proved to be no match for young Ava, who showed a complete lack of interest in tapping out, and appeared to be quite happy chilling out in her dad’s arms.

Perhaps a bedtime story would be a better technique to lull her to sleep!
