In the video below, Rener Gracie of the famed Gracie family discusses the finer points of street fighting against multiple attackers. He obviously has a biased towards Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but he takes an objective look at all martial arts when it comes to defending yourself against multiple attackers and discusses the best strategies for safely navigating this treacherous situation.

The video starts off with instruction that I wholeheartedly believe is the best advice one can receive when talking about defense against more than one opponent and it is the exact same advice every one of my instructors have given in regards to defending yourself against an attacker wielding a knife or threatening you with a gun. The piece of advice is simple: RUN! No matter how proficient you are in the martial arts, how much experience you have, or how knowledgeable you think you are; the advice is the same.

There is no use in putting yourself in eminent danger when it can be avoided however; there are times when it simply cannot be avoided. In a scenario such as this there are some things that you can do to minimize the amount of damage that you will absorb and to minimize the dangers that you will inevitably face.

The video below takes an in-depth look and gives expert analysis at the aforementioned situations and describes in detail exactly what a person’s goal should be in a certain situation and the best way to achieve that goal to ensure the safety of the one being attacked. The video below is a must watch for anyone interested in self-defense no matter how experienced you may be.
