Facing off against an armed attacker is a nightmare scenario for even the most seasoned martial artists. When someone has a gun pointed at you all it takes is a simple pull of the trigger and you can lose your life or have it seriously altered.

In the following video we see what martial arts movie icon and aikido practitioner Steven Seagal has up his sleeve in order to defend against an armed attacker.

He goes over two different scenarios in the clip – one where someone has a gun pointed at him from the front, and another when he has a gun pointed at his back. Important to note that both are dire scenarios however and should only be attempted by trained martial artists.

In the first scenario, Seagal quickly and swiftly points the gun away from him with one hand and with the other he bends the attackers wrist which put him down. Essentially gaining control of the weapon and neutralizing his attacker with one swift movement.

In the second scenario with the gun to his back, he quickly turns around, knocks the gun out of the way then uses that momentum to toss his attacker through the air and gain control of the weapon.

A common theme in mostly all gun defense or disarm techniques is to immediately make sure the weapon is pointed away from you before you do anything – whether its pointing the weapon away from you yourself physically or simply moving out of the way, if not both.
