Despite what many martial arts movies would have you believe, fighting a much larger opponent is more often than not a daunting task and a large size discrepancy can oftentimes overpower a large gap in skill. Just ask Ernesto Hoost after getting beat down by Bob Sapp.
In this YouTube video we see the smaller man get the better of his much larger foe, using technique and skill. Though far from the skill level of Ernesto Hoost, the smaller man has taken a few kickboxing classes it seems. He starts out throwing a front kick that misses and you can already see he’s fighting smart, staying on the outside of his opponents range and using good movement. His opponent, who probably has close to fifty pounds on him, rushes in with a big right hook yet he’s able to move out of the way.
Though onlookers in the background seem to be laughing at the smaller, retreating man, he is staying just out of his opponent’s range, out speeding and frustrating him which is needed to beat a larger man.

The big guy comes at him hard with punches but the smaller guy is able to move away and land a few of his own. He makes a mistake when he throws a poorly timed spin kick and ends up on the bottom which is not where you want to be against a bigger guy. Luckily, the smaller guy has some idea of what to do on the ground while the big guy has no idea.
The action starts to pick up when the smaller guy lands a bomb when his opponent is getting up and drops him. He pours it on too. The big guy manages to get back to his feet but it looks like he’s done.
The action slows down tremendously after that. The smaller guy is controlling the action though, landing some good leg kicks and a great counter right hand. He piles it on towards the end too until it’s stopped. The smaller guy clearly won that one.
