Driving for Uber can be a great way to make some extra cash and while there is definitely accountability for all involved, anytime you are allowing someone you don’t know into your car there is always going to be some risk.

In this video from the colorful Wing Chun expert, Master Wong, he demonstrates how to stay safe while driving for Uber in case you ever encounter a passenger who wishes to cause you harm.

The dangerous aspect of driving for Uber is not only that you don’t know the person you’re driving for, but they usually are directly behind you. Sure, the way the app is set up means if they try anything they will probably get caught afterward but that doesn’t do you any good in the actual moment.

If they try to attack and choke you/threaten you from behind, Master Wong recommends using your car key to drive it into your attacker’s hand, forcing them to let go.

Master Wong also recommends then controlling and twisting your attacker’s fingers after they let go as well as using verbal directions to make them get out of your car.

Keeping your chin down low and having your key ready to use is imperative as well especially if you get the sense that your passenger is going to try something.
