The global calendar market is massive; in the USA alone it’s worth over $500,000,000. And there is a niche in the market for nude calendars. There are seemingly few groups without a nude calendar. The results are typically diverting.

There are calendars for every interest, including combat sports. And there are even nude calendars in combat sports. They are not at typically exploitative, but rather are noble in thought and deed.
When a BJJ and MMA gym in Imatra, Finland (pop. 28,074) was having trouble making rent, some of the female students hit on an idea that had never been tried in the MMA space – a nude fight team calendar. All 600 copies were sold, and rent was secured for months. The UG got a special shout-out for that one, too!
Then the Judo team at the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal took their clothes off for a calendar, to raise funds for the UMinho Emergency Social Fund. Selling only from the campus bookstore, they raised over $9,000, and received a national ethics in sports award.
The project is a beautiful example of the concept of Jita kyoei (Mutual benefit), established by Judo founder Jigoro Kano. Such a spirit is perfected through Judo, thereby promoting the concept of mutual benefit and prosperity in the larger world.
There have been attempts at introducing sexiness into MMA, perhaps most notably by Bodog MMA, when the gambling concern was in the MMA business. The problem with it wasn’t so much that the women were scantily clad, it was that they were terrible at combat sports. There is nothing wrong with scantily clad. But terrible, well, is terrible.
Russia’s Strela BJJ team released a calendar that caused some controversy. However, there is nothing wrong with putting attractive people in calendars, posed attractively. In fairness, the calendar probably should have included men and women, but in a clear concession to the market, it was no boys allowed. Businesses typically go fishing where there are fish, and the market for nude female calendars is larger by far than the market for male calendars.

Strela Team was founded on September 1, 2010 by Dimitry Selivakhin, and has grown into one of the top competition teams in Russia. It now has ten schools, including Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Smolensk, Elista, Kazan, Derbent, Evpatoria, Irkutsk, and Krasnoyarsk.
