Two South American armed robbers thought they had picked an easy target when they homed in on a couple of Mormon missionaries, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth.

The incident occurred in Manaus, the capital of the Amazonas region of Brazil on March 11th, 2017 and was captured on CCTV.

The dramatic video footage shows the two Mormon’s, who are reportedly American citizens, walking down the street in their distinctive missionary attire when they are suddenly approached by the two robbers on a motorbike.

One of the thug’s then leaps from the bike, brandishes a gun and attempts to rob the men in broad daylight.

However, the larger of the two Mormon’s decides he’s not going to let them get away with it and engages in a brief struggle with the robber, wrenching the gun from his grasp.

As the robber flees the scene his partner in crime fights to take the gun back, but the quick-thinking missionary throws the firearm over a nearby fence and then starts unloading punches at his attacker.

The mormon continues to get the better of the fight as it spills onto the road, until the robber is eventually knocked off his feet on the other side of the street.

Soon after another passing motorcyclist stops and assists the Mormon, though the thug is then able to break free and runs off, leaving his motorcycle behind.

We are grateful that this incident did not end tragically, either for the missionaries or the other individuals involved, a spokesman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints told the Washington Post after the video went viral.

The guidance given to missionaries is to avoid conflict. Every situation is unique, and as adults, missionaries must make decisions about their safety. In this case, the assailant had a weapon and the missionary reacted in the moment to protect his life and that of his companion.
