Michael Jai White is not only an actor and a martial artist but a well-known Hollywood writer, director, and producer with a filmography that spans over two dozen features. You may remember him from the Mortal Kombat series as Jax Briggs or as his portrayal as the infamous Mike Tyson in HBO’s 1995 hit Tyson. White has turned his love and passion for the martial arts into a career that spans movies, television shows, and even music videos over the course of 27 years and at only 48 years of age is still going strong.
White started his martial arts training in Jiu-Jitsu at the tender age of seven and incredibly, holds black belts in seven different martial arts: Shotokan Karate, Taekwondo, Kobudo, Goju Ryu, Tang Soo Do, Wushu, and Kyokushin Karate. A former teacher, White moved into the world of acting in the late 1980s with a couple of minor movie roles in the films The Toxic Avenger Part II and The Toxic Avenger Part III before moving into the world of television.
A little known fact is that White is the first African American to portray a major comic book superhero in a major motion picture when he starred as Al Simmons, the protagonist in the 1997 film Spawn. Where White has really made a name for himself however; is the way in which he incorporates his martial arts skills into his work.
Calling upon decades of training, not only does White do the majority of his own stunts but is also an intricate part in the fight choreography of just about every one of his fight scenes.

In the video below, we’ll take a look at some of the best mixed martial arts fight scenes of White’s illustrious career.
