A bus driver in Chile got the fright of his life when a lunatic suddenly held a knife to his throat, but luckily a good Samaritan stepped in to save the day and dish out some good ol’ fashioned fistic karma.

The heavy-set, spectacle-wearing driver, identified as Ruben Sanhueza, was in the middle of his shift in the central Chilean city of Concepcion when the attacker boarded the bus with his hood up and wearing a backpack.

Despite the bus being full of passengers, the thug headed straight towards Sanhueza, grabbed him by the head and held a knife to his throat.

It’s not clear whether the man simply intended to attack the driver, or was just attempting to rob him, but either way, a struggle ensued as Sanhueza desperately tried to keep the weapon away from him.

Meanwhile, a 22 year-old mechanic identified only as ‘Jorge,’ who also worked for the same bus company, witnessed what was happening from his seat nearby and decided to risk his own life in order to help his co-worker.

Getting to his feet, Jorge instantly went on the attack, unleashing a series of punches directly to the assailant’s face, while Sanhueza helped by grabbing hold of his attacker and eventually managing to disarm him while he was still distracted.

In total Jorge landed well over a dozen blows, before finally he wrenched the thug away from Sanhueza, spun him around and ejected him from the bus.

Unfortunately the attacker was then able to flee the scene and remains unidentified, but the driver was just relieved that things hadn’t turned out worse.

“Thank God he helped, Sanhueza later told Chilean TV network, TV Chile, with the reporter noting that, the rest of the riders just observed as the attack unfolded.

Thanks to Jorge’s split-second decision to come to the driver’s aid in such an aggressive fashion, Sanhueza emerged relatively unscathed from the alarming encounter, suffering only a cut on his hand.
