SISTAR is a popular South Korean girl group founded in 2010 with over 3,000,000 likes on Facebook, consisting of Hyolyn, Bora, Soyou, and Dasom.

The group recently filmed a public service review video regarding self-defense weaponry.

The quartet test a number of self-defense defense tools, including pepper spray, whistle devices, and a cat self-defense keychain. After testing the devices on a watermelon, the group members rate each on a scale of zero to five stars, based on practicality and effectiveness.

Even if your Korean is limited to Hana, Dul, Set, and TaeKwonDo, the groups’ antics are amusing.

First up was the Pig Keychain Self Defense Keychain, a noise maker. It has no effect on watermelons. Plus what if a bad person stomped on it? It got just One Star. Poor pig.

Next up was pepper spray, disguised as lipstick. This got a thumbs up, but there was a reasonable question about how you rummage around in your purse for the right lipstick mid attack. This too earned only One Star

Number three was the actually dangerous Kitty Keychain self-defense weapons, which are illegal in many jurisdictions. This is a mini version of Wolverine’s adamantium claws.

This had a nasty effect on the watermelon, BUT got watermelon juice on one of the stars, so it, too, earned only One Star.

A Kubotan variation, with a contoured grip and a pointed end useful for jabbing into the eye, was used to good effect on the watermelon. And the melon was apparently delicious, earning it Three Stars.

An extendable baton nearly split a watermelon in half, but was a little hard to return to its original state. It earned a remarkable Four Stars.

The group were particularly take with a high-tech stun gun, giving it the full Five Stars.

Although the presentation was a little inane, it did serve as an example of some of the range of tools that are available for self-defense. However, no weapon is a substitute for using your sense and intuition were danger is concerned. Further, for any weapon, seek training, and check with local law enforcement for legality.
