Watch what happens when a karateka (karate practitioner) takes on a much larger combat sambo practitioner in this YouTube video.

You see early on in the video there is a weight disparity of twelve kilograms which is 26 pounds! That is a substantial weight difference to overcome. The karateka is obviously the guy in the gi pants while the sambo practitioner is wearing the striped shirt.

The contest begins and the smaller karate fighter is intelligently using good movement and staying away from his opponents grappling. He lands a good front kick but gets a little carried away and goes for a wheel kick which his opponent uses to close the distance and take him down to the ground, not where a karate guy wants to be.

On the ground the sambo fighter lands a a couple brutal downward elbows to the back of his opponents head which are illegal in the UFC nowadays. Karate guy gets back to his feet momentarily and throws a nice soccer kick to his opponents head but it doesn’t really land.

The action is stopped shortly thereafter to due a cut on the karate guys head from those brutal elbows but it’s not in a bad spot.

The action continues at the three minute mark and the karateka is going for it but the sambo practitioner is able to grab him once again and throws him to the ground and its not looking good for the karate guy. Sambo guy is much more skilled on the ground but doesn’t do much other than hold him down and wear on him.

Karate guy hangs tough though and is eventually able to get back to his feet and land some good shots. The sambo guy is starting to look fatigued while the karate guy is still pretty fresh. It ends anti-climatically when the combat sambo practitioner motions to the referee that he’s had enough, awarding the smaller man the victory by way of forfeit.
