Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is martial art combat system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was formed from Kodokan judo ground fighting fundamentals that were taught by a number of individuals including Takeo Yano, Mitsuyo Maeda, and Soshihiro Satake.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu eventually came to be its own art through the experiments, practices, and adaptation of Judo through Carlos and Helio Gracie as well as other instructors and years later is still being utilized by nearly every mixed martial artist on every level.

There is often the conversation, or discussion, in regards to martial arts and their practicality in a self-defense situation or in a street fight. Well, although the discussion about individual martial arts being practical is definitely a valid conversation depending on the art, it is safe to say that there is no question about the relevance of mixed martial arts in a street fight: a trained person will win a fight against an untrained person 999,999 out of 1,000,000 times.

To reiterate from previous articles, particularly in regards to self-defense and street fighting remember that neither www.mixedmartialarts.com nor myself promote street fighting or physical acts of violence in any form or fashion, however; the question begs to be asked: what would happen if two trained mixed martial artists were to get into a street fight?

Well, look no further than the video below. Not only are these two skilled mixed martial artists; it is clear to see that they are skilled in not only the art of striking but Jiu-Jitsu as well, and, in particular, the Jiu-Jitsu skills are on full display. Another question often asked is this: how well does Jiu-Jitsu fair when strikes are involved?
