If you have spent a considerable amount of time on the internet you have likely seen a variety of animals that have gone viral. Some of the most famous examples include the cat that can play piano, a bulldog that can skateboard and of course there’s Charlie the Karate chimpanzee.

But it seems like Charlie is not alone, as it looks like he has some competition from a Japanese monkey that also practices the art of karate while holding down a full time job at the same time.

Meet Yat-Chan a twelve year old Japanese Macaque who hails from Utsunomiya, Japan who spends his days working as a waiter at the traditional sake house Kayabukiya Tavern. Originally kept as a house hold pets by owner Koaru Otsuka, Yat-Chan alongside another monkey named Fuku-Chan greet customers by taking drink orders, delivering the drinks and handing out hot towels.

Yat-chan first learned by just watching me working in the restaurant. It all started one day when I gave him a hot towel out of curiosity and he brought the towel to the customer.” said owner Koaru Otsuka in a television interview.

Due to Japanese animal regulations the Japanese Macaques are permitted to work a maximum of two hours per day but for their troubles the customers will tip them with soy beans which they enjoy.

But Yat-Chan’s talents do not stop there, after his work duties are fulfilled for the day he spends his time training in the art of karate under Koara Otsuka where his daily regime includes push ups, sit ups and even board breaking which has earned himself an honorary black belt.

Unfortunately after the 2011 Tōhoku tsunami the restaurant had to close its doors although the monkeys are reported to be doing fine with their owner with hopes of the restaurant reopening its doors.
