Concussions are starting to become a big issue in many sports, not just combat sports either. Sports like football and hockey involve constant collisions and that can have major consequences down the line.

Researchers are starting to figure out too that even if you are not completely knocked out, you can still take damage. All those hits to the head add up whether it’s on the gridiron or sparring too hard in the gym.

Getting knocked out and suffering a concussion in a fight is a very serious thing that needs to be approached very carefully. Whether it’s from an MMA fight, boxing, kickboxing or otherwise, it can be a very long process before you can recover and get back into training.

In this video from popular martial arts YouTube channel ‘fightTIPS,’ Shane gives us some advice on what to do if we ever get knocked out and suffer a concussion.

Shane gives a rough timeline of how long each step of the recovery process lasts but the first step after getting KO’d is to see a doctor. He or she will run tests and figure out exactly how serious the injury is and go from there.

How serious a concussion is can vary quite wildly too, so it is always best to err on the side of caution with anything related to your brain. That’s why Shane advises that you need to take a long time off any sort of impact even just hitting a heavy bag. He recommends doing low impact stuff like yoga and weight training for while to ease your way back into regular training.
