There are thousands of videos on the internet featuring two untrained brawlers going at it. There is also plenty of footage out there of two trained combat athletes fighting one another, obviously.

There exists a third option, though, and that is when a martial artist faces a completely untrained individual. There are nowhere near as many of these videos, and the reasons why could be the subject of an entirely different article. All of them, however, have one thing in common.

It’s not even close.

The video will be short. That is almost a guarantee. The fight will be completely one sided and on a second viewing you will notice that the martial artist was never at any point in danger.

This video is a textbook example. This video features a man named Ryan, who obviously has formal MMA training. There is a little of everything in this video: stand up, clinching, submission grappling and ground fighting. The poor schlep never stood a chance and probably doesn’t even know why.

Ryan, a southpaw, immediately and consistently places his lead foot outside the lead foot of his opponent, making defending difficult and counterattacking nearly impossible.

The man filming asks why the guy keeps trying to tackle Ryan. I will tell you why. He is outclassed, scared and tired of being hit. When humans become scared, they grab things. We believe if we can grab it, we can control it.

But just as the footwork was lost on this schlep, so too is the intricacies of the clinch. He lowers his head and presses forward, giving up his neck to a standing guillotine immediately. His only answer is a series of ineffective body shots that Ryan completely ignores, knowing that taking significant damage from those punches is unlikely.

And that’s perhaps the most important advantage that Ryan’s training has given him: the mental edge. He’s probably a little nervous, but the poor schlep across from him doesn’t even know what’s happening. He’s in full freak-out mode and probably won’t realize he did literally nothing until he watches this video himself.
