There aren’t many people that leave the house during the day or at night that intend to get into a street fight. There are some that do but those people are few and far between as the average Joe has no intentions of getting into a physical altercation…EVER.

It is probably safe to assume that most street fights are between guys between the ages of 16-21, basically high school and college, however; I’ve we have unfortunately seen before, these can have brutal and even fatal consequences.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was formed from Kodokan Judo ground fighting fundamentals that were taught by a number of individuals including Takeo Yano, Mitsuyo Maeda, and Soshihiro Satake. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu eventually came to be its own art through the experiments, practices, and adaptation of Judo through Carlos and Helio Gracie as well as other instructors specifically for street self-defense and to prove that size and strength are not everything. Years later it is still being utilized by nearly every mixed martial artist on every level.
