Differing tactics are adopted in this scrap on the street, with one fighter utilizing a leg kicking strategy, while the other sticks to headhunting with punches – but who comes out on top?

As the video begins the fighter in all-white is seen landing a jab as others watch on from the sidewalk.

However, his opponent in the blue shorts resets and the next time all-white closes the distance he lands an inside leg kick that knocks his rival off-balance and onto one knee.

All-white quickly gets up and immediately heads into the fray again, just missing with a left hook and a right hand.

Blue shorts backs up and then lands that inside leg kick again, then soon after connects for a third time.

Undeterred, all-white continues to march forward, so blue shorts decides to change things up and launches a winging left hook.

However, he loads up on that strike, telegraphing his intentions, and giving all-white time to counter the attack, landing a hard jab to the chin, then a right hook behind it that drops blue shorts hard onto the road.

Blue shorts lies dazed and confused as his opponent lands a final few punches, then others rush in to spare him from further punishment.

The merits of leg kicking in a street fight situation are interesting to debate. In MMA, it’s generally seen as a longer-term strategy, with the of punishing a fighter’s lower limbs often not bearing fruit until the later rounds.

Most street fights are over in the space of a few minutes at most however, so that limits the effectiveness of the technique to some extent in that situation.

Having said that, a well-executed leg kick landed on someone who’s not accustomed to receiving them can pay dividends much more swiftly.

So, it’s certainly not without its merits, but it would be unwise to rely solely on that technique to get the job done.

In this instance, all-white was caught off-guard initially by the first kick, but then seemed to shrug them off, which led to blue shorts becoming discouraged and abandoning the strategy altogether.

As always though, our advice in a street fight situation like this would be to avoid he confrontation in the first place, unless you are left with no option but to defend yourself.
