In this video a five-time world champion first taught the MOTOMAN-H24 how to cut like a master and then went ahead to head against it.
In celebration of Yaskawa’s 100th anniversary in business they aspired to create a demonstration that would both show the amazing precision of their machines and pay homage to traditional Japan. With this as their inspiration, they created the Yaskawa Bushido Project.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is a pleasure to introduce to you the MOTOMAN-MH24. For the Bushido Project the MOTOMAN-MH24 was equipped with a traditional, antique (Edo Period) Katana and prepared to execute demonstration cuts using tatami wrapped bamboo poles.
During the demonstrations a single technician would be in the room with the MOTOMAN-MH24. As you can see, he was clad in armor for protective measures. Everyone else involved was behind acrylic glass panels for safety. This safety was needed because more than once the MOTOMAN-MH24 had broken its demonstration sword. The solution for this was to recruit Japan’s greatest Iaido master to teach the machine proper cutting techniques.

ABOUT IADO
Iaido is associated with the smooth, controlled movements of drawing the sword from its scabbard or saya, striking or cutting an opponent, removing blood from the blade, and then replacing the sword in the scabbard. While beginning practitioners of iaido may start learning with a wooden sword (bokken) depending on the teaching style of a particular instructor, most of the practitioners use the blunt edged sword, called iaitō.Few, more experienced, iaido practitioners use a sharp edged sword (shinken).
