NBA superstar Dwyane Wade had the top selling jersey in the league for nearly two years. He’s also joined Michael Jordan and LeBron James as the only players ever to record a triple-double in the history of the NBA, when he got 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists on February 26, 2012 at the All-Star Game.

The Shooting guard was hand-chosen by Michael Jordan and debuted the Air Jordan 2010 during the 2010 NBA All-Star break. The next, Wade debuted his first signature shoe for the Jordan Brand. However, when his Jordan Brand contract expired in 2012, he signed with the Chinese athletic brand Li-Ning.

The decision worked out well for Wade, who now has his own”Way of Wade” sneaker and clothing line in China under the label, and branded retail stores.

The athlete is currently on a promotional tour of China, with stops in Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Shijiazhuang, Beijing, and a trip to Henan’s famous Shaolin Temple, said to be the birthplace of Kung Fu. There Wade, who is widely admired for his philanthropy, prayed with his wife, promoted his brand, and was invited on stage by a monk to learn how to do the “Eagle Claw.”

Based in his first lesson, it would appear that Wade is wise to keep his day job, which makes him over 23 million dollars per year, and not become a monk learning Eagle Claw.

As is generally the case with oral history, the details of the history Eagle Claw change according to the teller, with names and places shifting. However, the essence of the story is that Eagle Claw began in the Shaolin Temple and in Chinese military training, became a family tradition passed on from parent to child for generations, and eventually shed its air of secrecy with the advent of public martial arts schools. The area is home to perhaps a dozen martial arts schools, including the Tagou Wushu School, which with35,000 students is one of the largest in the world.
