What is most terrifying about this real-life footage of a machete attack in Nicaragua is that the men with the machetes were not there to rob the victim, kidnap him, threaten him or intimidate him. They were there to kill him.

Now just one attacker with a machete coming at you would be absolutely terrifying enough. Two guys is on another level, the odds of survival are not good.

The intended victim was not ready to lay down and die however as he stood his ground and fought back. Luckily he had a small knife of his own on him, which is probably needed in Nicaragua if these types of crimes occur with any regularity.

The attackers wasted no time and went directly after this guy. The defender had balls of steel though and even attacked back with his own knife. He may very well have stabbed one of his attackers (in self defense of course) if not both but it is hard to tell for sure.

He stood his ground, fought back, and waited for the right moment to make his escape and it looks like he got away with his life intact which is pretty incredible.

So how was this brave man able to escape with his life in such a dangerous scenario? For one, the defender remained calm. He didn’t become overwhelmed and cower in the corner or scream for help. Also, he was also always a moving target, he didn’t stay stationary. A big part of his survival as well which we can’t ignore is he had a weapon of his won – though we cannot condone carrying a weapon, in certain high risk countries perhaps it is necessary. He also attacked back but didn’t go overboard with it, he simply used his offense to create the opportunity to get away which it looks like he was able to do so.
