Trying to fight someone with a knife is a highly dangerous situation that should be avoided at all costs. Despite what many self-defense martial arts might tell you when someone has a knife and you do not the best move is always to get away and escape unharmed.
A knife is a very dangerous weapon and all it takes is one poke in the right squishy part and it is game over. With all that being said, however, it still may be beneficial to practice some knife defense stuff just in case you are ever in a situation where running is not an option or in an extreme scenario.

BJJ, while being a grappling art, is actually highly effective in most self-defense scenarios but how would BJJ do against someone with a knife? In this video from self-defense expert Nick Drossos, he tests that scenario with the help of a BJJ practitioner.
What we find out in this video is that BJJ, while being an extremely effective martial art, is not particularly adept against a knife wielding attacker. While self-defense expert Nick Drossos was quite impressive here in this video, as previously stated the best move when someone has a weapon and you don’t is to always get out of there and escape unharmed.
