We might all have to eat insects in the near future. Yep.

The thought of eating insects might disgust you but it’s a relatively common practice across the globe; in fact, more than 2 billion people already incorporate insects into their daily diets. Eating insects is a fairly casual thing in many Asian countries.

The same cannot exactly be said about Western countries. Most westerners seem to be disgusted about consuming insects because of cultural and gustatory hurdles. Eating cockroaches or butterflies seems unfathomable for most of them. But what if meat and fishes were to disappear and the only worthwhile food left was insects?

We might have to collectively grind our teeth and accept the idea of eating insects very soon. In fact, a 2013 report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations pointed out that arable land is getting scarcer by the day, which is a very real threat to mankind as world population is expected to rise to 9 billion people by 2050. The FAO argues that democratizing the consumption of insects is a viable solution against world hunger.

What are most insects worth as food exactly? Well, it is said that they’re high in protein, but also low in fat, which can be a good or bad thing depending if you’re a Paleo Diet addict or a China Study freak. As for their actual taste, most insect-eating enthusiasts claim that they either have little to no taste or that they have the same taste as the food they’re being cooked with.

We (fortunately for this writer) have still the possibility of eating meat, fish and whatnot, hence why I ask you: would you eat an insect, like, right now? Cris Cyborg, although reluctant at first, actually did so while on a vacation in Thailand. Watch the MMA star eat a f***ing tarantula!
