It’s hard to figure out exactly what is going on in this brutal beat down video but apparently an off duty officer was involved somehow. According to the video,
“An off-duty cop assigned to the Critical Response Command has been suspended because he didn’t identify himself to officers investigating a Manhattan stabbing his friends were involved in — and now police are trying to determine whether he failed to take any police action, the Daily News has learned.
Officer Ronnie Velez was suspended for the good of the department, the NYPD said.
He was questioned by officers who responded Sunday at 6 p.m. to a call about a fight at Seventh Ave. and 21st St.”
It is unclear who the officer is or why he is in involved but it looks like he is trying to restrain someone until the guy in the maroon shirt gets involved and he is the one who ends up doing most of the damage. He puts the eventual victim in a rear naked choke briefly when the other assailant in black shows up and gets involved too.

That’s when the brutal beat down begins and they very cowardly team up and viciously assault this guy. Pounding his face in and soccer kicking him in the head. I’m not sure where the off duty cop comes in to play but I assume he is one of the two guys grappling in the background.
So what does martial arts have anything to do with this? Well it shows you that this kind of stuff happens in real life, not just the movies. In broad daylight nonetheless in NYC surrounded by people and nobody is helping this poor guy. Would martial arts knowledge have saved this guy from this near death beat down? Maybe, but maybe not. But if you had a martial arts background and saw this assault take place you would maybe have the confidence to get involved and perhaps help save this guy’s life.
