All time boxing great Jack Dempsey was the heavyweight champion from 1919 all the way to 1926 and was a true cultural icon for his time. He is consistently ranked among the top ranked heavyweights of all time as well as the one of the top ranked heaviest punchers of all time.

In the following video we see the grandson of the former boxing great continue his family tradition of fighting but in the MMA cage instead of the boxing ring.

Jack’s grandson ‘John Dempsey’ is also quite a big dude. Standing 6’5” tall and weighing 245lbs, he’s quite a bit bigger than even his heavyweight champion grandfather was who stood 6’1” tall though that was probably actually quite big for the time.

As far as the fight is concerned, Josh is clearly the better striker of the two but his opponent is successful in turning the bout into a grappling contest.

Though John shares some of the same toughness his grandfather possessed as well as some boxing ability, his grappling skills are a little lacking and gets out worked in this one and loses a lackluster decision.

ABOUT JACK DEMPSEY:
William Harrison “Jack” Dempsey (June 24, 1895 – May 31, 1983), nicknamed “Kid Blackie” and “The Manassa Mauler”, was an American professional boxer who competed from 1914 to 1927, and reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1919 to 1926. A cultural icon of the 1920s, Dempsey’s aggressive fighting style and exceptional punching power made him one of the most popular boxers in history. Many of his fights set financial and attendance records, including the first million-dollar gate. Dempsey is ranked as tenth on The Ring magazine’s list of all-time heavyweights and seventh among its Top 100 Greatest Punchers, while in 1950 the Associated Press voted him as the greatest fighter of the past 50 years. He is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, and was inducted into The Ring’s Boxing Hall of Fame in 1951. [Source: Wiki]
