In this video from Russian amateur MMA promotion ‘Arrows Street Fight,’ we see what happens when a bodybuilder fights an MMA fighter who is quite a bit smaller than himself.
Now most of the time, the bodybuilder physique is quite terrible for fighting as more muscles require more oxygen which means they are more quick to tire. However, they can still pose some problems with their strength advantage particularly early on in the fight.
The bodybuilder comes at his smaller, MMA fighter (allegedly) opponent quite hard initially, but the MMA guy does the smart thing and wraps him up and takes him down to the ground with a nice inside trip.
All of those muscles don’t really matter once you are on your back and someone is on top of you pounding away. That is where skill comes into play and if you haven’t trained in grappling you are almost certainly going to lose.
Surprisingly though, the bodybuilding at least knows how to get half-guard and control his opponent’s posture so he may not just be a bodybuilder after all. Still, though, the MMA fighter is able to get passed his half guard and goes to full mount where he starts pounding away.
Then, in a bizarre turn of events, when the fight almost looks to be called off, the bozo of a referee stands them up – when the MMA guy has full mount?! He must be new. Or perhaps buddies with the bodybuilder.
That blunder by the referee changed the outcome of the fight as once they were back on their feet, the bodybuilder tees off on the now fatigued MMA fighter, eventually knocking him out.
