When it comes to martial arts that are actually effective in self-defense, boxing ranks pretty high believe it or not. Though many people don’t look at boxing as a martial art the same way they look at karate or taekwondo, it is probably more effective than both of those arts when it comes to self-defense.

The sport of boxing is known as ‘the sweet science’ and is the art of both hitting as well as not getting hit and there is a lot that goes into the not getting hit part that many people neglect.

In the following video we see someone who has some clear boxing ability easily handle himself in a street fight. We see from him not just punching ability but some real solid defensive skills such as good head movement as well as some blocking and parrying.

Street fighting is of course never recommended however and it should only be done as a last resort. Though it may seem cliche, walking away is always the better option and will save you a lot of trouble long term.

What’s interesting about this fight video however is that this possible ‘boxer’s’ defensive skills actually look better than his offensive skills. Usually it is the other way around in these kind of videos. His punches can look quite loopy and sloppy at times but his defense is on point throughout the entire fight.

Perhaps he is just toying with his outmatched opponent, but it definitely looks like he has at least some boxing training under his belt, but probably not competition experience I’d assume.

His opponent was never in this fight and the guy with boxing experience completely dominated him and embarrassed him, dropping him multiple times and opening him up. This fight really shows the vast difference in ability between someone who is skilled versus someone who is not.
