UFC Hall of Famer Bas Rutten knows a thing or two about street fighting and likewise self defense. He is famous not only for his amazing MMA career which saw him claim the UFC Heavyweight title, but also an entertaining series of street fighting tutorials which teach the viewer how to stay safe in a variety of self defense scenarios.
Much in the same is this video clip from Fuel TV’s ‘Punk Payback with Bas Rutten’ where Rutten demonstrates what to do in the dire situation where you are faced with a gun.
Firstly, Rutten goes over that it’s imperative to be within arms reach of the gun if you hope to have a chance. Also you have to make sure you are not in the line of fire which is pretty self explanatory and repeated by many other self defense experts out there.
Now once you able to get a hold of the gun it is crucial that you don’t let go. From there you can look to strike the opponent but ultimately Rutten says you want to take that gun away.

This is done by grabbing the bottom of the handle while simultaneously holding the barrel (pointed away from you or others!) and then simply prying it away.
