In mixed martial arts the sport of wrestling has proven to be one of the most practical systems to help one prepare for a fight inside the Octagon with rookies and champions alike depending on it. From Randy Couture, Chad Mendes to Jon Jones, it’s not hard to find a championship level athlete who falls back on their wrestling in multiple situations.

Now given the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s popularity is at an all time high, it’s no surprise that school yard fights and street fights have stylistically been influenced by what has been happening inside the Octagon for better or worse.

Generally speaking grappling styles such as freestyle/greco-roman wrestling, judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be used as a less harmful option to diffuse a volatile situation, due to the option of being able to control a person using technique without throwing a having to throw single strike and draw blood.

But when any of these styles are used with reckless abandon, things can go wrong very quickly. It is one thing to slam a person on a wrestling mat, but it’s completely different animal slamming someone onto hard concrete where there is a much heightened possibility of concussions, broken bones, paralysis and even death.

In the following clip here are some clear examples of wrestling being used recklessly and to be honest quite poorly but still to devastating effect.

For all intents and purposes, please do not replicate anything you see in this video.

If any of these people shown victorious were put on an actual wrestling mat against someone of comparable grappling skill they would easily get beaten, but as you can see when paired up against an opponent who is also a novice with the addition of fighting on concrete the damage caused becomes infinitely higher.
