MMA is still relatively a fairly new sport in the grand scheme of things that is still changing quite rapidly from year to year as well as continuously gaining new fans. MMA fans themselves can vary quite wildly in their knowledge nowadays too, from hardcore fans who know quite a lot, to more casual-type fans who don’t really know what’s going on.

These casual-types are usually the ones who believe these kinds of things but, at one point, a good chunk of hardcore fans might have believed them too.

4) There would never be women fighting in the UFC

It wasn’t too long ago that there were no women fights in the UFC and not many fans ever thought there would be. Even UFC president Dana White was against women fights for the longest time and it didn’t seem like he’d relent anytime soon. It wasn’t until Ronda Rousey came along who changed Dana White’s mind and say what you will about her personality or her downfall, had it not been for Ronda, there likely still wouldn’t be women fighting in the UFC.

3) There were martial arts that were ‘too deadly’ for the UFC

It wasn’t too long ago either that a lot of fans thought there were martial arts and masters who were far ‘too deadly’ to compete in the UFC and, believe it or not, there probably are still some of these bozos out there. This should be a red flag that the so-called ‘fan’ you are talking to doesn’t know anything about martial arts and shouldn’t even be speaking on the subject.

2) Rickson Gracie’s record was 400-0

While Rickson Gracie is definitely a legendary figure in both MMA and BJJ, his supposed record of 400-0 is most likely preposterous or at least hyperbolic. In this video, we see Rickson’s likewise legendary father – the late, great Helio Gracie, clarify the matter for us and set the record straight.

1) There’s no way a boxer could ever beat an MMA fighter with MMA rules

While this is going to be true the vast majority of times, you should still never say never. When a championship-caliber boxer (but well past his prime), Ray Mercer, fought the out of shape former UFC heavyweight champion, Tim Sylvia, not many were giving him a chance. But as the old adage goes, power is the last thing to go. As we can see in the video, Ray Mercer proved that anybody has a puncher’s chance, especially a big, heavy puncher like himself.
