For the average person starting out in the martial arts, it can be quite a struggle to achieve a simple high kick. But for Brett Sawley of the British Chi Taekwondo team, he and his team give the term high kick an entirely new meaning.

Appearing on the Guinness World Record stage on April 7th 2009, Taekwondo black belts Brett Sawley, Andy James and Ray Sawyer sought out to set the world record of the highest assisted martial arts kick.

The setup for the record attempt was simple, a kicking board was setup on a horizontal bar at the target height, which then had to be kicked by Brett after being launched into the air by both Andy and Ray. After successfully landing the kick Brett would also have to land successfully on both feet to complete the record attempt and avoid possible disqualification.

The first attempt of the record was set at 4 meters (13.1 ft), which was completed flawlessly giving the trio the world record.

But not ones to be completely satisfied with their handy work, they sought to break their newly minted record by upping the ante to 4.25 meters (13.94 ft).

Find out below to see if they manage to break their own world record for the highest assisted kick.

Guinness World Records, known from its inception in 1955 until 1998 as The Guinness Book of Records and in previous U.S. editions as The Guinness Book of World Records, is a reference book published annually, listing world records and national records, both of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world. The book itself holds a world record, as the best-selling copyrighted book of all time. As of the 2016 edition, it is now in its 62nd year of publication. The international franchise has extended beyond print to include television series and museums.
