Self-defense is a set of different methods that can be used to stop a personal attack. The techniques have been derived from traditional martial arts, adapted for use by ordinary people to defend themselves even in their normal life.

It should provide enough mechanisms to stop any action that threatens a person’s physical integrity, liberty and property, with minimal risk or damage to themselves. In addition, it increases levels of self-control and confidence while practicing a healthy physical activity, optimizing the responsiveness to a surprise/physical attack with simple and fast techniques.

This video shows how to defend against a static knife attack. The instructor said at the very beginning that the first thing to do is to keep talking with the aggressor before making any move. Then, figure out where the knife will go to cut in order to clear the body from the trap.

If the knife goes to the neck, a person should trap the arm and move it away in an opposite direction, twisting it. If it goes to the stomach, it would be the same, but a person should close the distance between his body and the aggressor, so the knife cannot reach the torso. For not being able to predict what the attacker will do next, the hand must continue trapped and the victim should use knees, eye gouges and elbows, using those strikes as quick as possible to neutralize the attack.
