What would happen if you put a 12 year-old girl who trains in MMA up against two fully-grown adults with no previous experience in fighting?

The 12-year-old in question here is Teyah Gutierrez, who trains out of the UFC gym in Torrance, California and is overseen by their Senior Director of Mixed Martial Arts, former WEC champion ‘Razor’ Rob McCullough.

At the gym, Gutierrez has been working on all aspects of MMA, from Muay Thai and boxing to Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and wrestling since she was nine-years-old.

That being said, though she’s gone up against kids a few years older than her, Gutierrez had never gone up against an adult before this video.

Of course it wouldn’t be fair to just throw them into the cage and watch what happens, so instead BuzzFeedBlue devised a three-round challenge to test how the male (Ryan) and female (Selorm) adults would do compared to the youngster.

First up, the adults had to try and hold mount position on top of Gutierrez. However, despite their size advantage, there’s no substitute for technique in this instance and having competed in grappling competitions before, Gutierrez was easily able to sweep them both and get on top.

For the second challenge a Hykso sensor device was used to record the number, speed, intensity of the three’s punches on the heavybag for three minutes.

Again the adults just weren’t able to keep up with Gutierrez, whose superior cardio enabled her to land more more punches than both of them put together.

For the final challenge the grown-ups had to avoid Gutierrez’s punches for five minutes, but though Ryan emerged unscathed thanks to his huge height advantage, Selorm only took two blows before she got scared and tapped out!

Of course these challenges shouldn’t be taken too seriously, but the real takeaway here is that due to the popularity of the sport these days, the next generation of potential fighters like Gutierrez are now able access quality coaching in all aspects of fighting from a young age, and surely that can only bode well for MMA’s future.
