Tito Ortiz is a UFC Hall of Famer and was the face of the organization during it’s growth from spectacle to billion dollar business franchise.
Ortiz always had a contentious relationship with the UFC and after leaving the organization in 2012, signed a contract with the rival promotion Bellator MMA. Ortiz fought four fights with Bellator MMA, winning three of those including his last fight against also former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen.
Ortiz had been fighting professionally since 1997 and with his win over Sonnen announced his official retirement. Although rumors have circulated about another fight and members of the media have pressed Ortiz on the thought of fighting again, Ortiz is adamant he will stay retired:
Ortiz, who has come out of retirement before, told MMAjunkie on Friday that he’s comfortably retired now and has no intention of competing ever again.
As a fighter, it’s time to say it’s over after 20 years of competition, the UFC Hall of Famer said. I’m 42 years old. I’ve been through eight surgeries, and I still have my head on my shoulders, which I’m very, very lucky. Fortunate for the things that I’ve had through mixed martial arts, so I’m just trying to use the best of it to build the name of Tito Ortiz.
I’m doing well, man. Just working hard and chasing this American dream, and I’m living it.
