The main event of UFC Fight Night 112 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma featured a lightweight fight between top contenders Michael Chiesa and Kevin Lee. The fight headlined a six fight card live on FOX Sports 1.
It was supposed to be a grudge match between two of the most talented lightweights in the world. A victory would push one fighter to the upper echelon of the division.
Instead, all most people will be talking about after the UFC Fight Night 112 main event Sunday night in Oklahoma City is a blown call by referee Mario Yamasaki.
With the first round winding down, Lee locked in a rear-naked choke on Michael Chiesa. Yamasaki stopped the bout at 4:37, a submission victory over Chiesa.

Play-By-Play
Round 1 – Main event time. Bad blood. Lee kicks early. Chiesa throws a high kick, then tries to the body. Lee tries to kick to the body, too. But Chiesa lands a perfect left hand. Then he rushes in and lands again. Lee goes to the ground, and Chiesa tries to work a guillotine. But Lee works out of it and he’ll be in good position to take Chiesa down. He picks Chiesa up and slams him to the canvas. Chiesa works for an armbar, but it’s not there and he settles into guard. Lee tries to posture up. Chiesa goes after a triangle choke, then an armbar. But Lee passes around to the back and takes it. Chiesa works to his feet, but Lee drags him down and has a body triangle. Lee lands punches through Chiesa’s defense. Lee goes after a rear-naked choke, but then really works for a finish with punches. They’re big, and he won’t let off with the body triangle. Chiesa sits up and defends the choke. He has to survive another minute. Chiesa can’t stop the choke, and Lee gets it in. Chiesa fights it. But then Mario Yamasaki waves it off. Chiesa immediately sits up and protests, because he didn’t tap. There was no tap. There was no verbal submission. And Chiesa wasn’t out and didn’t go out. It’s a horrible stoppage by Yamasaki – a mistake for sure. It’s going to be a submission win for Lee, and Chiesa absolutely has reason to be upset.
