Jared Gooden came into UFC Vegas 33 as a short-notice replacement against Niklas Stolze, and the “Nite Train” went right through his opponent.

Jared Gooden detroys Niklas Stolze to first Octagon win at UFC Vegas 33

Right from the start, Gooden, 27, was throwing heavy shots and a few landed. The power in the punches got the attention of the German and seemed to stun him in the first 30 seconds. “Green Mask” recovered and looked to get in his own offense, but he didn’t get much of an opportunity to ever get going.

A little over a minute into the fight, Gooden landed a right hand that, while not flush, had enough power behind it that it floored his 28-year old foe. All that was needed was one more thumping punch on the ground before the referee jumped in and stopped the fight with 3:52 left in the opening frame.

Gooden’s win came in a must-win situation after losing his first two in the Octagon, and the Georgia native got it done. In getting his first win in the UFC he also earned his thirteenth finish in 17 wins.

The knockout loss makes Stolze winless in his first two Octagon appearances and is the first consecutive loss of his career.
