‘Vegas’ Dave Oancea runs a consulting site for bettors. You may have heard about him when he won $2,500,000 on the Royals winning the World Series last year.

Last November he told MMAjunkie Radio that he was putting $10,000 down on Holly Holm vs. Ronda Rousey.

I’ll put $10,000 on that for fun, said Oancea at the time. I’ll put $10,000 on her every time against her and just keep doubling up, because eventually she’s going to lose – that’s my philosophy. It just takes one lucky punch. I’ll put $10,000 on her if they let me do it. I’ve got balls.

It turns out that he did not put down $10,000 on Holm. He put down $20,000. And he explained his reasoning.

It wasn’t a lucky punch that put Rousey’s lights out, it was a kick. And it wasn’t luck, it was strategy. But that doesn’t matter. And thus it was that ‘Vegas’ Dave made $240,000.

I stick to what I’m good at,” he said, explaining why he mainly sticks to baseball and football. “If I bet boxing or MMA, I’d probably bet the underdog because it just takes one lucky punch to knock the person out, so why not take the underdog? I’ve got it down to football and baseball. I want to make people money.

Vegas Dave bet again on a Holm fight, but this time he put his money – $77,000 – on Miesha Tate to beat the new champion. This is up from an initial wager of $53,000. It is in keeping with his process of betting underdogs in MMA.

Tate appeared recently on MMAjunkie Radio and discussed the bets.

He just texted me earlier today, said Tate, as transcribed by Steven Marrocco. He said, ‘I’m upping my bet to $77,000.’

Tate is a +250 underdog, so if Oancea wins, his $77,000 will net $192,500.
