At the UFC 196 post-fight press conference, new women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate declined to name a potential next opponent, saying it us up to the UFC. UFC president Dana White has an idead, and the name is no surprise.

There are three options:
1. Rematch with Holly Holm.
2. Fight with Amanda Nunes, who was at the media event.
3. Trilogy fight with Ronda Rousey.

It doesn’t take a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing.

I think that Ronda now will fight Miesha Tate for the title, said White on ESPN’s SportsCenter after UFC 196, as transcribed by Mike Bohn for MMAjunkie. That’s what’s going to happen. That’s what I said before this fight even happened.

I texted Ronda, and Ronda wasn’t even watching the fight. I texted Ronda, and she said, ‘What happened?’ I said, ‘Miesha just choked her unconscious.’ And she said, ‘Well, it looks like I got to get back to work.’ I don’t know what that means – if that means acting or fighting.

She’s scheduled to not come back until October or November, but that doesn’t mean I can’t ask. I can ask. Ronda Rousey has worked very hard for three-and-a-half years in this company and believe me, she did anything that was asked of her and went above and beyond the call of duty. If she wants to stay out until October, she can do that.

In the mean time, Tate, like Holm, remained a tremendous ambassador for the sport.

I’m just excited to be here, Tate said after the event. Right off the bat I want to say thank you to Holly for stepping up when she could have waited. In my mind that woman is still a champion, will always have a ton of my respect and if I ever have the honor of stepping in there with her again, I would love that.

At the UFC 196 post-fight press conference, Tate echoed the sentiment.

“The right move feels like drinking a Budweiser and eating cupcakes,” she said, as transcribed by Damon Martin for FOX Sports. “That’s what the right move feels like. Then I will talk to KHI, my management team and we’ll talk to the UFC.

“My job as the champion is to fight the next best person — so whoever that is I’ll fight them.”
