Just about every fighter out there has their strengths and weaknesses (with the exception of maybe Demetrious Johnson). Most fighters, even at the UFC level, have things they are exceptional at, things they are okay at, and perhaps even some things they are not particularly good at.
Take endurance for example. For some fighters out there, this is one of their best traits. They can even use their superior gas tanks as a weapon by setting a pace that their opponents can’t keep up with. Fighters like the Diaz brothers, Frankie Edgar, Cain Velasquez (at sea level), and current middleweight champion Michael Bisping all have excellent gas tanks and make great use of that trait during their fights.
Other fighters, like we see in the following video, may still be considered great but their gas tanks certainly aren’t.

Conor McGregor for instance has certainly taken the world by storm and is one of the current pound for pound best fighters out there. His gas tank however is definitely not world class and seems to be one of his very few weaknesses. This was exposed in both of his fights with Nate Diaz, though in the second fight he seemed to pace himself a little better.
Perhaps pacing yourself in a fight is just as important to having a good gas tank as typical cardiovascular endurance is. Not blowing your wad early in the fight and saving some for the later rounds may even be more important, depending on who you ask.
Another fighter featured in the video is the muscular middleweight Hector Lombard. Like commentator Joe Rogan often points out, in Lombard’s case he may very well be too muscular as we all know more muscle requires more oxygen.

Recently retired Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson is also seen in the video and that’s not much of a surprise. Rumble was one of the most feared KO artists in the UFC but if he didn’t get that early knockout he was quick to tire in the following rounds, as seen in both of his title bouts against Daniel Cormier.
